A discussion program entitled “Sociological Perspectives on the Debate of Prosperity” was organized on 17th May 2018 at Nepal Tourism Board, Kathmandu. The program was inaugurated by Honorable Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Rabindra Adhikari. Prof. Dr. Ganesh Man Gurung, the chairman of NSA chaired the program, and two papers related to the theme of discussion were presented. Dr. Youba Raj Luintel presented the paper entitled “The Debate of Prosperity in Nepal and its Socio-economic Dimensions”. Next, paper written by Prof. Dr Bishow Kalyan Parajuli was presented by Anchala Chaudhary.
Nepal Sociological Association organized second episode of discussion program entitled “Sociological Perspectives on the debate of Prosperity” in Pokhara on 28th May, 2018. The program was inaugurated by honorable Finance and Planning Minister of Gandaki State Kiran Gurung. Prof. Dr. Bishow Kalyan Parajuli and Dr. Youba Raj Luintel presented the papers at the program. The presentation was followed by a discussion program where Prof. Dr. Bed Nath Sharma, Prof. Padam Sharan Regmi, Prof. Dr. Dil Bahadur Chhetri and Gahendreshwor Koirala commented on the papers. The other participants also actively participated in the discussion. Finally, Prof. Dr Kailash Nath Pyakuryal summarized the discussion with his concluding remarks. The program was conducted under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Ganesh Man Gurung, the Chairman of Nepal Sociological Association.
Nepal Sociological Association organized a one-day seminar entitled “Nepal’s Agrarian Structure: Attaining Prosperity through Structural Changes” in Hotel Orchid, Kathmandu on 21st November 2018. The seminar was inaugurated by Honorable Finance Minister Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada. The inaugural session of the seminar was chaired by Prof. Dr. Ganesh Man Gurung. Prof. Dr. Kailash Nath Pyakurel spoke on the focus and the objectives of the seminar. After the Inaugural session, two other sessions were conducted. Dr. Yogendra Karki, Joint Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, chaired the second session. In the session two papers were presented. Purna Nepali (PhD) presented on “Land Reform: Path’s to Nepal’s Prosperity”. Similarly, Youba Raj Luintel (PhD), TU presented on “Land Inequality, Poverty and Agrarian Structure”. The third session was chaired by Bishnu Bhandari (PhD), member of National Reconstruction Authority, in which two papers were presented. Yamuna Ghale, PhD Scholar at Agriculture and Forestry University presented on “Gender Mainstreaming in Nepal’s Agriculture”. Similarly, Bishnu Upreti (PhD), Nepal Center for Contemporary Research, presented on “Changing Landscape of Access to Food, Food Rights, Food Security and Food Safety”.
